"You must fill up everyday with positive energy, positive thoughts and positive actions. Without it your ride will stall. "

The quote above was taken from Jon Gordon’s bestselling book, The Energy Bus.  The Energy Bus talks about how to approach your life with positive energy.   It is the story of a man named George who was having some problems in both his personal and professional life.  He learns from the bus driver about 10 rules that changed his life.

Each of you is the driver of your own bus; the ‘bus’ of course is simply a metaphor for ‘your life’. You determine where your bus goes and whom you allow to get on your bus.  Clearly, the people we surround ourselves with have an enormous impact on our lives. It is therefore imperative—if you are to be successful—that you surround yourself with people who are supportive and positive!

That may be easier said than done especially during these challenging economic times.  You may occasionally encounter what Gordon refers to as “energy vampires”.  These are negative people who try to get on your bus and not only drain your energy with their negativity; they also suck the life out of you, your goals and your visions.  There may be some energy vampires in your office or with another firm that you meet when networking or showing property.  They can also appear as clients.

The key to maintaining a positive attitude and ultimately increasing your business is how you handle the energy vampires.  Don’t let them bring you down!  Gordon suggests posting a sign that reads: No Energy Vampires Allowed on the Bus! Talk to them and explain that if their attitudes don’t change, they will be asked to get off your bus!

We shared with you last week some encouraging signs indicating a recovery of the housing market.  Despite this good news, however, there always seem to be a few naysayers who feel compelled to cast doubt on optimistic folks like us.  We thought you might find these “10 rules to fuel your life, work, and team with positive energy” useful to making sure you stay on track.

  1. You are the driver of your bus.
  2. Desire, vision, and focus move your bus in the right direction.
  3. Fuel your ride with positive energy (negative energy is friction).
  4. Invite people on your bus and share your vision for the road ahead.
  5. Don't waste your energy on those who don't get on your bus.
  6. Post a sign that says, "no energy vampires allowed" on your bus. (Get rid of the malcontents.)
  7. Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them for the ride.
  8. Love your passengers.
  9. Drive with purpose.
  10. Have fun and enjoy the ride.

Remember, as the bus driver, you get the final say. You have the choice to not allow negativity on your bus!

It's your life... enjoy the ride.

Hop on the bus and make it a great week!
